Well, my friends, we dove headfirst into the new semester, syllabi blazing! I’ve also been gearing up for my busiest wedding season yet, on top of lots of fun and not-so-fun life things. I figured now would be the perfect time for a little update, Awkward + Awesome style!
Listen, I’m not one to be a constant Debbie downer. But last week was like our own little hell week. First, our air conditioning unit gave up. Upon assessment, we found out that it needs to be replaced ($$$$). The following day I was rear-ended on my way home. The day after that I got randomly sick, which completely took me down. And two days later, Luna broke a toenail and needed an emergency vet visit. Hell week, you guys.
The Game of Thrones finale, combined with Taylor Swift’s new single really brought up my spirits, no joke! That, along with extra time snuggling poor little Luna while her paw recovers, has made me more conscious of finding ways to decompress at home. It turns out (no surprise) that HBO + puppy snuggles are the way to go.
So this one was in the middle of hell week and would have been way funnier if I wasn’t so exhausted already. When I arrived at the auto shop to drop off my car for repairs, there was already a gentleman there waiting to be picked up by the rental car company. The shop owner told me that I could join him in going back to Enterprise to get my own rental car, so I did. Except when I got to Enterprise, they didn’t have my information on file. A quick call confirmed… my rental was waiting for me at Hertz. A few nervous laughs and phone calls later, and I was able to use Enterprise instead, but man, that was a dumb feeling. And super funny explaining to the insurance lady that my reason for switching was because I accidentally went to the wrong place…
When random parts of life start crumbling around you, a lot of clarity comes into vision. About who you turn to for support and ways that you nourish yourself and your relationships. I took a leap and joined the Dailey Method for a five-week trial, and so far it’s been amazing! I feel so much better about life in general when I take the time to care for my body. And that, in turn, makes me more diligent in my meal planning, which I’ve finally kicked back into action! I’ve also been more intentional with quality time, both with Joe and my close friends, which has been so fruitful.
So moral of the story – take the awkward with the awesome. Even a hell week can’t keep the sunshine away.
