Happy Tuesday, friends! Welcome to the Disney version of Awkward + Awesome. You’re in for a real treat …
Awkward: The snowstorm that wasn’t very snowy. We had plans to fly out of Baltimore on Tuesday morning, but when the weather predictions had 8-12 inches of snow getting dropped Monday night, we scrambled to adjust our flights. We ended up leaving on Monday instead, and thanks to super gracious friends, sweet Luna was well cared for. There ended up being more ice than snow, which still caused travel delays. But it all seemed very anticlimactic.
Awesome: We got to spend more time with family! One of those hard realities of growing up is that people tend to spread out. Between South Carolina, Maryland, and Nebraska, it’s pretty tough to get all the Baileys together more than a couple times a year. This was one of those times, so we soaked up every minute!
Awkward: To set this up, you should know that I spent the summer before my senior year of college sleeping on an air mattress. I was doing research at the University of Georgia, and I didn’t want to move a whole mattress down to Athens for eight weeks, so I improvised. Since then, I’ve always considered myself easygoing with regards to sleeping arrangements. If I can sleep on an air mattress or the forest floor, I can sleep anywhere, right? Wrong, my friends! The mattress in our room was super soft, and it completely killed my back after two nights. Thankfully, my gracious in-laws swapped mattresses with us and I slept much better the rest of the trip. I guess I’ve turned into a sleeping diva in my old age!
Awesome: The rides and the shows. So technically, my favorite ride was Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey at Hogwarts in Universal Studios. Sorry, Walt! But I loved so many of the rides and shows we experienced at the Disney parks. In no particular order, the highlight reel: Frozen Ever After (ride at Epcot), Frozen Sing-Along Celebration (show at Hollywood Studios), Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor (show at Magic Kingdom), Space Mountain (ride at Magic Kingdom), Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin (ride at Magic Kingdom), Tower of Terror (ride at Hollywood Studios), and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (ride at Magic Kingdom).
Awkward: It was over just as quickly as it began! We ran into a few bumps along the way **cough, monorail, cough** but all in all it was a great time and so so good to see family!
