It began a couple of weeks ago, looking at my sad, long locks in the mirror, wishing that they didn’t require so much work to look good. I settled instead for having them look so-so for basically the entire summer. Rule number one of surviving southeast summers: thou shalt not let heat tools touch thy hair, lest thou burst into flame. Then on Friday, a friend remarked how much she loved my length at a specific length the year prior. Yes! All my thoughts had been pointing me there – short-hair nirvana. I planned to wait until it was a touch longer since I was donating, but in that very instant I wanted it gone, all of it. Saturday morning saw me frantically calling local salons, begging friends for recommendations, creating appointments then cancelling for, finally, a place that could fit me in right away. 8 inches and 2 hours later, here we are. Fresh cut and a new lease on life (or at least on hair styling time).
In other news, I’ve moved into my full-time role at Stevenson and I love it. I could sing about how much I love it. The beginning of the semester always has me panicked and anxious, but as soon as I hit the ground in lectures, I’m reminded at my strengths and my love for teaching. I have incredible coworkers and an amazing boss. I love it all, even my lame but productive office hours and my partially functioning office door.
A few noteworthy items I’ve come across recently:
This doorknocker was a gift from my brother & his sweet girlfriend, and it makes me so happy to look at when I open the door. It’s just too cute!
The Grammarly App for Google Chrome – it’s amazing and simple and so so helpful! I always thought I was a comma over-user, but it turns out I’ve been missing them in a few key places!
This Planner from Writefully His and Bloom Planners. I’m currently using the academic year version, but I like that this planner supports a company that gives back and is an adorable way to keep me organized. My schedule is too big for my brain these days, so it all gets written down.
Betabrand’s Dress Pant Yoga Pants are a total game changer. I know yoga pants and dress pants don’t seem to belong in the same label but trust me, these babies are what miracles are made of. I don’t know that I’d wear them to yoga, but I plan on wearing them to work every dang day if I get the chance (don’t worry, just received my second pair). I went for the straight leg and bootcut styles, would recommend sizing up if you’re in between sizes, and would advise petite length if you’re under 5’6.
This natural, vegan mascara has been a total dream find on my journey towards a more conscious beauty routine. It meets my simple requirements: it works just as well as the toxic stuff (yay!) and it’s easily accessible (not expensive and can be purchased at Target). Two thumbs up all around!
